We are people grounded in the bible
The bible reveals to us who God is and in so doing who we are as well. We study the bible and find that on page after page it takes us off guard, surprises us, and draws us into the reality of God’s grace and love for us and the whole world. We believe that in studying the bible, that the Spirit challenges us, comforts us, and changes us.
The bible reveals the God we know, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, personally addressing us in whatever situation we find ourselves, at whatever age we are, in whatever particular place we are in whatever time we live. Above all the bible’s central purpose is to make known to us the living Word, Jesus Christ. Reading the bible deepens our love, knowledge, and service of Jesus as our Lord and Savior.
We are a family
We don’t go to church or do church, we are the church. The good news of Jesus Christ creates a community in which people care for one another and seek to hold one another accountable. It is God who creates Christian community and calls us by the Spirit to be part of it. To be a Christian is to belong to a community.
The only people who are worthy of being accepted in the church of Jesus Christ are those who are not qualified to belong. Despite any differences we may have with one another we believe that our unity does not mean uniformity. We find our common identity in the grace of God made known in Christ Jesus. That is what binds us together as a family of faith.
We are a people of Hope
The world and we are God’s good creation. But we believe that the world is fallen. It is not as God intended it to be. But one day it will be! The good news about what God has begun in raising Jesus from the dead points to the good news about what is going to fully happen one day. We trust that the God who raised Jesus will raise us. Because of the resurrection of Jesus, the world is not the same as it was before. We live each day sustained by the hope that one day God will remake and renew all of creation. God will one day heal and restore the world to its original intent. We believe that in the end, love wins.
We seek to share the Good News
We are a community not of people who have all the answers but, of forgiven sinners, defined by God’s grace, striving imperfectly to serve Jesus as faithfully as we can. Our trust in the end is not in ourselves but in God. And we believe the good news of Jesus is for everyone.
